Shigisan (2/5)

The temple which Prince Shotoku erected was not so popular, and year after year the temple declined.
In 910 A.D., the Emperor Daigo re-erected the temple and gave it name of "Chogo-sonshi-ji", literally "temple of protecting the Emperor's adminisrations from rebels eternally". But, probably because of its long name, people call the temple simply "Shigisan" temple.
Today, the temple is not for administrators nor for military men, but for citizens who pray for their happiness, their business prospering and so on. Religious believers of this temple have spreaded all over Japan and also to Hawaii and Taiwan. There are many visitors every day, amounting to half-million people annually.
