When you visit Shigisan, you will find many paintings of tiger and paper tigers. The legend says, when Prince Shotoku prayed the god, the time was "Hour of Tiger", "Day of Tiger" and "Year of Tiger" of traditional time system.
Only upon this legend, tigers became the symbol of this mountain, though native tigers had never existed in Japan.
