Shigisan (1/5)
Shigisan(pron:shee-gui-san) is a mountain, 437 meters-high above the sea level, located near prefectural border between Nara and Osaka.
In the end of 6th century, there was a battle between Prince Shotoku and rebels. It is said that Bishamonten, a god of war, appeared above the head of the prince when he prayed here to win the battle.
After winning the battle, the prince named this mountain as Shigisan, literally "Reliable and Honorable mountain" and for his thanks to the god, he made a small sculpture of Bishamonten and erected a temple for enshrining the sculpture.
