Bishamonten

Originally, Bishamonten was a god of war, as one of "Four Heavenly Guardians" in Buddhism world, called "Vaisravana" in Sanskrit.
After Buddhism spreaded to Japan from India through China, the god of war was worshipped by military men. At the temple of Shigisan, there are many evidences, mainly letters, that famous military men in medieval years visited there for praying to win their battles .

But, later the god was changed to one of seven gods of good fortune by merchant class people. The tradition says that Bishamonten will help prayers achievement of what they wish, making their business prospering, protecting them from dangers and so on.
