Kichidenji (2/4)

It is said that originally, the Emperor Tenji (626-672) erected here a temple and tomb of his younger sister, Hashihito (?-665). In this temple, there is a small tomb mound called "Tatsuta-Shimizu-Ryo" which is said to be the tomb of Hashihito. However, upon the documented historical narrative Nihon Shoki (Chronicles of Japan released in 720), she was enshrined together with her mother Empress Kohgyoku at tomb mound of other place far from here (25kilo-meters southward). But, the tomb written in the Nihon Shoki could not be found today.
On the other hand, it is said that, after her death, more than 300 years later, Genshin visited here and decided to erect this temple. But, there is historical narrative of local people, though undocumented, that Genshin erected the temple at different place near from here.
Today, anyone is not sure who is the enshrined person of the tomb and who is the builder of this temple.
