Hohkiji-(2/4)

Originally, Hohkiji was palace Okamoto(after name of the location) where Prince Shotoku had lectured a sutra of buddhism. He ordered his son to change the palace to the temple at his deathbed in 622.
First, Main hall was erected in 683 and later the Pagoda was erected in 706. Since then, the temple had prospered, particularly, in 8th century.
However, in mid-16th century, due to military turmoil, the temple lost all of structures except the Pagoda.
After peaceful centuries started in early 17th century, the temple was restored, rebuilding Kohdoh (Lecture Hall) in 1678 and Shohtendoh (Main Hall) in 1863.
