Horyuji-(13/15)

Hall of Visions (Yumedono)(2/2)

In this hall, enshrined is Kuse Kannon (Statue of salvation:left picture), a life-size statue of prince Shotoku. The Statue had been designated as secret statue and it was never disclosed to public for many years. However, Dr. Ernest Francis Fenollosa (1853-1908), an American scholar in oriental arts, visited Horyuji in 1884 and he strongly recommended the temple officials to disclose this statue, highly appreciating its value in religious arts.
Today, the disclosure of the statue is limited in the following terms.
Spring :April 11 - May 18
Autumn:October 22- November 22

There are two seated statues of monks who dedicated to this temple as if they guard Kuse Kannon. One is statue of Gyoshin Souzu, the founder of the Eastern Precinct and the other is Dohsen Risshi who repaired the decayed temple more than 120 years later after the foundation.
