Gallery of Temple Treasures (Daihozoh-in and Kudara Kannondoh)(2/2)

The most famous and attractive arts displayed in the gallery may be Kudara Kannon and Tamamushi Tabernacle.
The Kudara Kannon statue has tall (height:211cm) and slender well-proportioned figure and its graceful and merciful expression have captivated many people. As the figure is rare for a Japanese Buddhist statue, people had believed the statue was from Kudara (also called Paekche): an ancient kingdom on the Korean peninsula. However, by scientific research on material (wood) of the statue, it is found that the wood exists only in Japan and the statue was made in Japan.
The Tamamushi Tabernacle, miniature of shrine (height:227cm) is said to have been the private property of the Empress Suiko.
